Technical Game Designer
Portfolio Summary
Experienced in a multitude of programming languages and game engines including Unreal Engine 4/5 & Unity. Most familiar with C++ and C#. Below you will find highlighted projects I have worked on over the years. Projects for Super Evil Megacorp and Deviation Games are not shown as they are covered under NDA.
Occultus Ocularus
Unity / C#
Formerly being worked in my free time with other classmates in the Game Design & Art collaboration organization at UCSC, Occultus Occularus is a puzzle platformer, centered around the theme of redirecting light to open your path. Embarking on this path is our unnamed protagonist, a member of a humanoid eye-themed Occulus race who aims to reach their enlightenment and "open their inner eyes"
Superball
Unity / C#
Made in our free time with other classmates in the Game Design & Art Collaboration organization at UCSC, SuperBall is a turn based RPG action game centered around a socity’s remake of dodgeball. It follows Shiro Smith, a high school transfer student who gets rapidly wrapped up in a city-wide dodgeball tournament, making friends while also competing for the championship cup. Throughout her training, she gets the opportunity to talk to and battle other rival schools who challenge her skills and eventually face her brother in the championships.
Robits
Unreal Engine 4 / C++
Set in a cyberpunk world not far in the future, Robits centers around building and programming robots in order to accomplish a series of challenges and battle your way to the end of the level. Along the way, the players will need to develop their critical thinking skills in order to effectively use our in-game programming system.
Playground Heroes
Unreal Engine 4 / C++
Bringing inspiration from World of Warcraft and Dark Souls, Playground Heroes is a split-screen co-op game detailing the forest hike of two sisters as they weave a fantasy journey, creating intricate boss battles, fighting to face their fears, while coming to terms with family conflicts.
Occultus Ocularus
Practical Solutions
Currently being worked in my free time with other classmates in the Game Design & Art collaboration organization at UCSC, Occultus Occularus is a puzzle platformer, centered around the theme of redirecting light to open your path. Embarking on this path is our unnamed protagonist, a member of a humanoid eye-themed Occulus race who aims to reach their enlightenment and "open their inner eyes"
Superball
Excellent Results
Made in our free time with other classmates in the Game Design & Art Collaboration organization at UCSC, SuperBall is a turn based RPG action game centered around a socity’s remake of dodgeball. It follows Shiro Smith, a high school transfer student who gets rapidly wrapped up in a city-wide dodgeball tournament, making friends while also competing for the championship cup. Throughout her training, she gets the opportunity to talk to and battle other rival schools who challenge her skills and eventually face her brother in the championships.
Grapple Game
Unity / C#
Prototype game made during 3 weeks for my final year fall quarter game design class. As a focus for this prototype, we drafted a small demo focused around the idea of using a grappling hook as a puzzle mechanic. From this basic start, each mechanic gradually emerged, creating new puzzle mechanics and eventually their own levels. This prototype focused more on gameplay mechanics and building example levels showcasing them.
Resonator
Unity / C#
Resonator is an exploration horror game about a scientist who discovers that what he sees in his trips to an alternate Eldritch-style dimension are coming back with him. The various things they see start to have a long term effect on their sanity, causing aspects of the world to distort and behave erratically. As the game goes along, the distinction between the two worlds becomes more and more subtle until the final point, where neither world is distinct from each other, plunging our scientist into an infected world of their own creation.
PJ & Casey in The Great Cookie Caper
Unity / C#
Following the theme of the 2019 Global Game Jam: What Home Means to You, PJ and Casey in the Great Cookie Caper is a simple puzzle platformer centered around the main mechanic of a throwable bouncy pillow. You play as a child staying up past their bedtime, platforming with their trusty pillow through a larger-than-life home where the floor is lava!
PICO Wars
PICO-8
Assigned to in us as a final project in my Game Engines class, me, Ajay Belaram and Morgan Storrs decided to create a demake (simplified version of an existing game) of the strategy game Advance Wars within the (purposely) simplified PICO-8 game engine using the scripting language Lua. The PICO-8 engine provided a very limited set of capabilities to the developer, purposefully emulating the first generation of video games. 16 color palletes, pixel art, and 32Kb memory limits were imposed to make this so.
Boardcraft 3
Board Game
A board game adaptation of the Real Time Strategy game Warcraft 3. For our final project of our Game Systems class, (CMPM 176) we had to create an analog version of a digital video game. We chose to do a board game adaptation to emulate the systems present within the digital version of the game. This was a unlicensed class project based upon Warcraft 3 (all rights to Warcraft 3 held by Blizzard Entertainment).
Ozymandias
Inform 7
Tasked with creating a Inform 7 parser-based Interactive Fiction story, I teamed up with Mallory Strout to draft and create a game called Ozymandias loosely based on the poem of the same name. Within our game, the player character uses typed actions to explore an expanse of desert with seemingly no purpose. However, as their movements gradually reveal more and more of a buried city and the history of its downfall along with it.
